How To Join

How to Join for Adults

* Download the application form, or call the boathouse to have it sent
to you. You can also pick one up if you're in the neighborhood.
* Turn in your application to our front desk We accept cash, check, and
MC/Visa. You will receive a CBI membership card, schedule, and member
handbook.
* First Time Sailors Once you've taken the Orientation class, you are
ready to go sailing. Put on your PFD (personal flotation device) and
check in at the dock house, one of our experienced volunteers will take
you out and start showing you the ropes. In order to sail on your own,
you will need to earn your Solo rating. You will need to attend Rigging
class, Shore I class, and pass the Solo Tests. Don't worry. We'll help
you along at every step.
* Experienced Sailors For experienced sailors, there is a quicker way
to get on the water. We call it the Fast Track. Usually we can get a
skilled sailor checked out to go sailing in less than 2 hours. You will
need to learn how all our members use CBI's equipment, and our standard
procedure for safety and boat sign outs, then we'll test your sailing
skills. Ask for information at the dock house or front office.

How to Join for Youth

* Get your proof of swimming Prove that you can swim 75 yards. If you
have a YMCA (level Fish or above), Red Cross Intermediate or above card
or a Boy Scout or Girl Scout badge you can use those. If you don't have
any of these, head to a Y or Community Center and have a lifeguard test
you and give you a note on pool letterhead saying that you can swim 75
yards.
* Turn in your application You can do this by dropping it off at the
boathouse during our normal business hours, or you can mail it in.
Please mail checks or money orders and include a photocopy of the proof
of swimming. If you turn in the application by hand, you can use cash
and bring your original swimming proof, we just need to see it.
* Sign up for a class Class sign-ups begin on May 1. If you mailed in
your complete application (with $1 and proof of swimming) before that
we can sign you up over the phone. If we do not have everything, we
